Take SDV 100 (College Success Skills) in your first semester. You will learn about the college, find out useful information about registration and learn how to declare a major. Additionally, you will receive helpful information about how to study, how to take tests more effectively, and how to manage time and stress.
Take any required developmental courses first. You must have these completed before you can enroll in other pre-requisite courses.
Take a prerequisite course or courses in a subject that is a potential major.
Keep in mind that 12 credit hours = a full academic load, and you will need to devote at least two hours outside of class, for every 1 credit hour you take. This should serve as a guide to help you determine the number of classes you schedule.
Try to schedule a variety of subjects, rather than taking all of your major courses in the same semester.
Think about the reading and writing requirements of various classes. Don’t schedule too many history, literature and other intensive-reading and writing courses the same semester.
