Patron Eligibility and Registration
Currently enrolled Thomas Nelson students, and residents of the TNCC
service area (Hampton, Newport News, Poquoson, Williamsburg, James City County and York
County, Virginia) eighteen years of age or older are eligible for borrowing
privileges.
Library registration is required of all borrowers. Photo identification
noting the patron's local address is required for a library card and proof
of current registration for TNCC students. No library cards will be issued
any later than 30 minutes prior to closing time.
Check-out policies
Thomas Nelson students & staff may check out up to 15 items;
though no more than three books on the same subject may be checked out to any
one patron at the same time regardless of the call numbers.
Non-student patrons may check out up to three books
total.
Circulation Periods
General collection books and sound recordings are checked out
for 4 weeks (28 days).
Non-reserve items may be renewed one time only
for an additional four weeks, as long as no other patron has put in a request
for the item. Patrons may renew in person at the
circulation desk, over the phone, or through the library's online catalog.
Reserve materials have limited circulation times, from one to seven days,
as determined by the course instructor. Reserve items must be returned to
the library for a 24 hour period before the can be checked out again.
Periodicals (newspapers and magazines) may not be checked out of the
library.
Fines/Fees
Overdue Reserve materials: $2.00 per day per item.
Overdue Inter-Library Loan items: $.50 per day per item.
Lost Items: $50.00 per item. With librarian's permission,
patrons may replace books with a new copy of the same title or an approved substitute.
Process for paying fines:
1. Obtain bill from library
2. Pay at the Cashier's window in Diggs Hall
Overdue materials may result in the following sanctions:
1) Library privileges; grades; transcripts; registration; Academic Computer Lab access may be blocked.
2) A non-refundable collection agency fee of 15.5% ($7.75 per
item) is assessed if an overdue item is returned
more than 60 days beyond the original due date.
3) Unpaid obligations may be turned over to the State Debt Set-Off Program.
4) A ll obligations must be paid in full before students can receive
diplomas, degrees, certificates or transcripts.
