Historic Triangle Hospitality Training

The Historic Triangle Hospitality Training program was developed by the Historic Triangle Jamestown 2007 Host Committee in preparation for the 400th anniversary commemoration to establish hospitality standards for the regional tourism industry and provide hospitality professionals the tools and knowledge they need to represent the Historic Triangle to the public.

Community leaders worked together to create a consistent, welcoming environment for guests that will help us brand the Historic Triangle as an unparalleled vacation destination. The Historic Triangle Hospitality Training program was created to serve this purpose and will continue to be offered as a resource for promoting and enhancing superior hospitality in our community.

The core message of the Hospitality Training is to

“Prepare-Care-Share (PCS):”

  • PREPARE themselves personally to meet the guest’s needs;
  • Show guests that we CARE about them and can respond to their individual needs;
  • SHARE information about all of the diverse recreational opportunities the destination offers.

The program includes individual training and certification, business certification and rewards and recognition. The PCS framework includes two training modules, Continuing Education Unit (CEU) credits issued by Thomas Nelson Community College, individual employee certification, business certification, and a recognition program.

This vigorous training program will enable hospitality professionals to:

  1. Prepare themselves personally in order to meet guests’ needs.
  2. Engage guests to enhance their "on-site" experiences.
  3. Recognize guests as individuals and be receptive to their diverse needs.
  4. Apply different service solutions in response to individual guests’ needs.
  5. Employ service recovery techniques to solve guests’ problems effectively.
  6. Support community commitment to the success of the Historic Triangle .

Once Historic Triangle employees complete the PCS classroom training, they will be eligible to participate in a day-long tour of the major Historic Triangle attractions and amenities. Touring the area’s major attractions will help employees understand the exciting programming and help them to convey the compelling reasons why visitors should choose this destination. The more informed area hospitality employees are, the more enthusiastic they will feel about the destination, and the excitement will be contagious. Word of mouth from area residents and employees to visitors, friends, family, and so on, is the most effective way to spread the message that the Historic Triangle is “the” place to go!

The Greater Williamsburg Chamber & Tourism Alliance will administer Historic Triangle Hospitality Training in conjunction with Thomas Nelson Community College.
