The Office of Student Activities offers activities and opportunities for students at both the Hampton and Historic Triangle campuses, as well offering activities for the students who attend classes at the Southeast Higher Education Center. Students can participate in student government, sports, student clubs and organizations, and earn scholarships for community service.

  • Discount HRT 30-Day Fare-cards
    TNCC Students can purchase Hampton Roads Transit (HRT) 30-Day Fare-Cards at a $5.00 discount. Stop by the Cashier’s Window in the Business Office during business hours. Sponsored by the Office of Student Activities.
  • Colonial Williamsburg Tour
    • Date: Friday, November 13, 2009
    • Price: $5.00 with a TNCC Student ID-- (Limit two per student)

The Office of Student Activities provides exciting opportunities for students at the Hampton and Historic Triangle campuses, including:

  • Student Government Association (SGA)
    The SGA represents the interests of all students at Thomas Nelson and includes students from the Hampton and Historic Triangle campuses. SGA officers and representatives serve on college committees, oversee student clubs and organizations, represent student concerns, and work with Student Activities to provide services and activities for students. The SGA office is located in room 223, Griffin Hall on the Hampton Campus and room 229B at the Historic Triangle. Online application for the TNCC Student Council can be found at www.tncc.edu/studentactivities.

  • Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society (PTK), Phi Sigma Chapter
    Phi Theta Kappa, Phi Sigma Chapter is the international honor society of the two-year college. Members must have completed 12 semester hours of associate degree course work with at least a 3.5 GPA and possess qualities of citizenship.   • Student Ambassador Program
    The Student Ambassador Program consists of TNCC student volunteers who work as good will ambassadors to support special events hosted by the SGA and other offices. These students provide assistance on campus and in the community. To become a Student Ambassadors, please complete the Student Ambassador application.

  • Sports Teams and Cheerleaders - Baseball, Men’s and Women’s Basketball
    Intramural and intercollegiate sports and cheerleading are offered throughout the school year. For additional information, visit the Office of Student Activities, in 224 Griffin Hall. To sign up complete the Cheerleaders, Basketball: Men / Women or Baseball application.

  • The Nelsonite Student Newspaper
    The student newspaper is published during the fall and spring semesters to provide information as well as offer a forum for student perspectives. To join the Nelsonite staff, complete the Nelsonite Student Newspaper application. For more information, please contact advisor Shar Wolff at 825-2775 or wolfs@tncc.edu.

  • Velocity Dance Team
    The Velocity Dance Team features students who perform a combination of jazz, modern and hip-hop dance. Auditions are held during the fall and spring semester. To register, complete the Velocity Dance Team application. For information, contact advisor Victoria Sanders at 825-2779 or sandersv@tncc.edu.

  • Community Service Scholarships
    Students can earn $100.00 in tuition assistance per semester by volunteering to work 10 hours with an approved community agency (pdf) or 15 hours assisting offices on campus. Contact the Office of Student Activities for campus locations requesting assistance. All participants must register in advance by completing the Service Scholarship application and review the Service Scholarship Guidelines. (pdf)
  • Students with Disabilities:
    Campus events are intended to be accessible to all students. Students who require special accommodations due to a disability should notify the Student Activities Office at least 48 hours in advance of the planned event. Interpreter services for hearing impaired students are available through the Office for Disabled Student Services located in Hastings Hall, Room 323 or by calling 825-2833.

  • Flyers and Posters
    The Office of Student Activities is responsible for approving information to be posted on campus bulletin boards. Flyers for TNCC special events and other information should be brought to the office to be stamped and dated before posting. Advertisements for products or services are not allowed to be posted on campus.
