 Dan Sims (TNCC) "Developing and Maintaining an E-cabinet "
The Mathematics Department at TNCC utilizes an electronic filing cabinet, which contains the course materials for each mathematics course. The materials include sample syllabi, course management information and supplemental instruction; and the site can be accessed via the Internet. This session will discuss how to develop and maintain an electronic filing cabinet and point out many of its advantages.


Classroom  2406 (Martin Bldg.):  Sandy Spain (TNCC) "Activate Your Classroom:  Tips and Techniques for Classroom Assessment and the PRS (Personal Response System )"

What are we doing in Preparing for College Writing I and/or II?  What should we be doing?  Come to the discussion with your course descriptions, syllabi, questions, concerns and comments.

 Sally Harrell (TCC):   "Title III at TCC: Connecting Academic and Student Services in Support of Student Learning"
Student Services and faculty who teach developmental mathematics and English are pulling together to raise students' awareness of the unique metacognitive strategies that help each of us learn and apply our learning meaningfully. Through a network of support, students are becoming independent learners as they launch their postsecondary experience.

Bridges Learning Center, room 3306 (Walker Bldg.):  Agatha Peterson (TCC) "The Bridges Learning Center Brain Gym"
Tidewater Community College is one of four colleges in the Virginia Community College System selected as a demonstration site for a Bridges Learning Center .  The Bridges Learning Center helps students develop the cognitive and perceptual skills needed for success in school. Each student has an individual “treatment plan” consisting of physical exercises along with workbook and memory activities. Come learn how we use our “brain gym” to enable students to use their multiple intelligences to become more effective learners.

  Sally Harrell (TCC) "'Universal Design' as a Foundation for Instruction Across the Disciplines"
Designed originally for students with certain types of learning disabilities, such as Attention Deficit Disorder, Universal Design is proving to be a powerful instructional foundation for helping students be successful in classes across the disciplines.
