*Note: this virtual workshop is open to all who are interested. It will be tailored towards those who hold supervisory and leadership positions at the College.
Members of the President’s Cabinet, Deans, Directors, Constituency Group Leaders and executive boards should make every effort to attend.

The Virginia Freedom of Information Act, Code of Virginia, 2.2-3700, et seq.,– typically referred to by its acronym FOIA – was enacted into law by the General Assembly in 1968 to ensure that citizens of Virginia have the right to inspect and copy public records and to attend public meetings. The idea behind FOIA is that the Government’s business is the people’s business. This overview will help to ensure that you are retaining appropriate documentation, considering best practices in your communication, and give you guidance on how to respond should you receive a FOIA request.

*Can’t attend in-person this time? Consider participating in online training through the Commonwealth of Virginia Learning Center: https://covlc.virginia.gov/Default.aspx “FOIA - Freedom of Information Act”
