Keynote speaker Dr. Jonathan Romero
With involvement in all aspects of nursing education, he specializes in adult medical-surgical nursing and perioperative care - particularly surgical assisting. He focuses on community-based participatory research in addressing health disparities in the community setting. Dr. Romero’s scholarly research has been featured in peer-reviewed publications.
He earned an associate degree in nursing from Thomas Nelson Community College in 2011 and has a bachelor’s in nursing from Fort Hays State University and a master’s in nursing education from Walden University. He received a doctoral degree in nursing practice from Regis College in 2021.
A member of the Thomas Nelson Local Board, he also serves on governing boards of directors for WHRO and Youth Sail Virginia, among other professional, policy, and health care organizations.

Tickets and announcements are not required; however, seating is first-come, first-served. If seating capacity is reached, overflow seating area(s) are available for visiting guests.

Cap and Gown information
Academic regalia is required for commencement participation. All graduates participating in the commencement ceremony must purchase the designated cap, gown and tassel from the Bookstore in Hampton or Williamsburg campus, beginning Monday, April 4 through Monday, May 16 2022. Online ordering is available. However, visiting the Bookstore is highly recommended for appropriate sizing. Once you receive your regalia package, ensure it is complete with your appropriate gown, cap and the correct tassel color. Contact the Bookstore for regalia pricing.
