The Virginia Sheriffs’ Institute (VSI) Scholarship | Virginia Peninsula Community College

The Virginia Sheriffs’ Institute (VSI) Scholarship

The Virginia Sheriffs’ Institute (VSI) Scholarship Program was established to provide an opportunity for young people across Virginia to pursue an educational curriculum in law enforcement or criminal justice. This program is limited to students attending Virginia colleges and universities. Only majors in the criminal justice field will qualify for a scholarship. Those majoring in law or pursuing a career as a lawyer will not be considered a criminal justice major.

Over the years Hampton City School students have received a $1,000 Virginia Sheriff’s Association scholarship to attend college. Once students begin college they can re-apply for the scholarship each year while in college should they continue to major in Criminal Justice.

Attached is the link to the information and application guidelines for the VA Sheriff’s Scholarship to be awarded to students attending a VA college and majoring in Criminal Justice.

This year the application must be completed online and forwarded to the VSI office electronically. https://vasheriffsinstitute.org/scholarship-policies/

Students must contact their local sheriff for a letter of recommendation with a bio outlining their academic success and extra-curricular activities at school and in the community. Once students receive the letter it can be scanned as part of their package. The completed application must be received by VSI in Richmond, VA by May 1, 2018. Please have students contact our office directly to get a letter of recommendation from Sheriff Karen Bowden.

Feel free to call if you have additional questions or concerns.
